Environment Systems are attending and presenting at the UK Overseas Territories and Marine & Coastal Group Conference 2016 – Protecting marine and coastal areas in the UK and Overseas Territories.
Elsa-Kristin Naumann will be presenting on ‘How does fisheries displacement affect the efficacy of marine no-take zones (NTZs)?’
The UK supports an abundance of life along its coast and in the marine environment but there are many pressures and threats, such as overfishing and damaging fishing practices, offshore developments, climate change and invasive species. In addition to the marine life around the UK, there are 14 UK Overseas Territories that are recognised as globally significant for their biodiversity with many rare and threatened marine species.
This one-day conference, organised jointly by CIEEM’s UK Overseas Territories and Marine & Coastal Special Interest Groups (SIGs) aims to bring together a range of experts and interested participants working in the UK and in overseas territories on protecting important marine and coastal resources through mechanisms such as marine protected areas. The broad scope will appeal to delegates from academia, industry and policy. The aim of the workshop is to cover a wide range of topics including managing our natural resources, marine spatial planning the latest developments in MPA planning and policy and case studies of marine protected areas, both in the UK and overseas.
